SAFETY
MISSION STATEMENT:
Here at Gilliss Casing Services Inc. We foster the belief that ″safety is an attitude″. We pride ourselves in being proactive in all aspects of the safety and health of all
employee/contractors whether being office or field personnel. Our safety practice mandates are internally monitored to meet and exceed industry standards of safety
and safe work practices on an ongoing basis. We not only care about our own employee/contractors but also those working in conjunction with us on all projects.
We believe that no deficiency may go overlooked, and the end result of this diligence will help to create the ″attitude of safety″ throughout the industry.
In an effort to reduce potential injuries we've implemented using air slips since 2010. Gilliss Casing Services is implementing Air slips for all strings of pipe ranging from 2 3/8″ to 7″. We believe that this method reduces pinch points between the conventional slips and the elevators. As well, we feel this will eliminate back injuries completely. All pneumatically controlled units operate using rig air. The slips can be manually operated if rig air pressure is lost. Safety is further ensured by a positive locking mechanism which locks the slips in the set position. Incidents have occurred where pipe was lost down the hole due to both human and mechanical error. The Type E pneumatic air slips, are constructed in such a way that they can be opened & closed to allow the pipe to be moved in either direction. The slip body cannot be removed from the pipe unless the gate is physically removed. This feature will prevent the slips being removed from the rotary table, due to accidental hoisting of casing; either by elevators catching the collar while picking up the next joint, or if the pipe hydraulics.
